Days 1–5
Build Trust
These first days are about letting your pet explore at their own pace — no brushing yet. The goal is calm, positive associations with the tools.
Introduce the Toothbrush
1–2 minPlace the toothbrush near your pet. Let them sniff and explore it freely. Do not attempt to touch their mouth. End the session with praise and a reward.
Touch the Muzzle
1–2 minGently touch the outside of your pet's muzzle with your finger. Keep the touch brief and calm. Reward immediately after.
Lift the Lip Gently
1–2 minGently lift your pet's lip for one second to expose the outer tooth surfaces. Release immediately. Reward with praise.
Never force the mouth open.
Introduce Pet Toothpaste
1–2 minPlace a small amount of pet toothpaste on your fingertip. Let your pet lick it off. Use only pet-formulated toothpaste — never human toothpaste.
Use only pet toothpaste. Human toothpaste is not safe for pets.
Toothpaste on the Gumline
1–2 minApply a small amount of pet toothpaste to your fingertip and gently rub it along the outer gumline. Keep the session brief and end positively.
